Legacy and Succession is a 56-year-old three-generation family firm. My father Mike Chaney started working with families doing traditional estate planning in 1967. I am so privileged to be the second-generation leader of our growing family firm, working side by side with my daughter Madison Chaney, who began working with me full-time seven years ago and is now our COO.
My approach to helping clients achieve their goals is grounded in a values-based philosophy. Early on in my career, I noticed that almost all families had a similar desire. That desire was to use planning to smooth the bumps, straighten the curves, and remove future obstacles preparing the road ahead for their children. What I learned through working with hundreds of families is that instead of preparing the road ahead for our children, we should prepare our children for the road ahead. This simple shift in perspective has proven much more effective in empowering future generations and formulating legacy and succession plans to foster a new generation of leaders poised for even greater success than their predecessors. We can never remove all of life’s obstacles, but we can prepare our children to face these obstacles and overcome them.
I believe that we can never stop learning and getting better. Over my 33-year career, I have continued to gain knowledge and hone my skill set acquiring several licenses and designation to more deeply serve my clients. I currently hold the series 24, 25, 63, 65, 6, and 7 securities licenses. I also have received the professional designations of Chartered Financial Consultant, Chartered Life Underwriter, and Certified Advisor in Philanthropy.
Working with so many families and seeing them restored and preserved, I wanted to chronicle these stories to showcase what the essence of successful legacy planning looked like in real life. In 2020 I authored the book “Most Valuable” which has been immensely successful in helping readers experience what other families have achieved through this unique form of family planning. Drawing upon real-life experiences and illustrative examples, I present a captivating narrative of how families who made this choice shaped their families for generations to come.
My family’s love and support is everything to me. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Gaye Lynn, for 40 years. Together, we have 4 beautiful children and one new grandson Elliott, who happens to share my birthday. When I'm not immersed in the financial world, you'll likely find me pursuing my passions, fishing, and traveling with my family.
Through expert counsel and an educational approach, I continue to work hard to see that our clients are well-equipped, their families are strong and their legacies are preserved.
